A Life Coach’s Guide to Living by Choice not by Chance

Each day we make choices that influence our pace and quality of life, and many of these are unconscious. While it’s a good thing we don’t have to think about every little choice we make, when it comes to creating a whole, fulfilled, balance between work-related activities and the rest-of-our-life activities… it’s a good idea to wake up and smell the proverbial coffee. Otherwise, we can find ourselves living with the effect of our choices such as feeling overwhelmed, stressed, unhealthy, or out of control.

making choices

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”-Nelson Mandela

This is not about right or wrong, good or bad. I believe there are no mistakes, simply lessons learned. Living by choice, not by chance requires us to take responsibility for our own life. We get to choose if our experiences will be a sentence, paragraph, page or a chapter(s) in our life’s story.

So let’s get started…shall we?

Do the following calculation:

  • Subtract your current age from 90
  • Add two zeros to the answer
  • Divide that number in two

*This is roughly how many weeks you have left on this Earth, assuming you live to a very ripe old age.

If you smoke and don’t look after yourself properly, subtract 1,200 weeks.

It’s time to live by choice, not by chance. Here’s how:

LET GO: Release those people, places and things that no longer serve you. You have the power to forgive an apology you never received, past hurts that keep you resentful, and folks that drain your energy. Let go. Start anew.

CHECKLIST of things to let go:

  • Toxicity
  • Clutter
  • Blocks
  • Negativity
  • Comparison
  • Need to Please
  • Distractions
  • Old Belief System
  • Anger/Resentment
  • Ego

QUESTION: If not now, when?

ACTION: Let go of something that no longer serves you Continue reading

Why We Love Summer Resolutions (And You Should, Too!)

sport, fitness, health, technology and people concept - smiling young african american woman running with smartphone and earphones outdoors

Summer – The best time to make resolutions!

Woohoo! Summer is here. It’s time to get out and have pure unadulterated fun! First on my list of summertime fun is to swap out my winter wear for my summer shorts and sandals, then take a weekend drive to the beach, and last but not least, visit my favorite fro-yo spot!

I love summer vibes; I feel happier, motivated to do more and inspired to simply…be.

There’s approximately 90 days of summer which makes it a great time to refresh those New Year’s resolutions, resolve them or make new summer resolutions.

Summer resolutions are a great way to set and achieve your goals in a unique and almost too fun way. Evenings are longer, flowers and fresh foods are everywhere. It’s literally nature’s call for you to ramble about, go for late afternoon-early evening walks, bike rides and just hang out with friends and family.

Aside from the fun in the sun atmosphere, summer releases higher energy levels. Imagine setting a summer resolution around an intimate relationship. You can do things such as:
• Plan a romantic dinner under the stars
• Watch a movie outdoors on a portable DVD player
• Talk a long evening stroll Continue reading

The ABC’s and 123’s of Living a Masterful Life and How to Make it Happen

The ABC's and 123's of Living A MasterfulWith International Women’s Day approaching and their 2015 theme being, “Make It Happen” I wanted to add my coach approach to the theme with this post!

Masterful Living is living your best life as your higher self in any given moment. Imagine… waking up every morning ready for what the day will bring; and going to bed grateful for the lessons and memories you’ve experienced throughout the day. Being conscious of how you show up in your life is how I define Masterful Living.

I was so excited when I received a message asking me to be a guest contributor for The-Zeit.com. What a great opportunity I thought. I pride myself on having the gift of multiple levels of perception and perspective which I’d like to share with you today. Laying down a foundation, a starting point, a place that you can always return to when life happens (and life will happen) is critical. Elementary school is just as important as College. We all need foundation and structure so here are a few basic tools we should have in our tool box that’ll help guide us on our life journey. Continue reading
